It's hard to have all the answers, and, oftentimes, as one question is answered, two more arise. Everyone has different experiences with their loved ones with Down syndrome or being an individual with Down syndrome, and it can be isolating to feel like you're the only one experiencing a part of life, especially when it comes to mental health and wellness. Podcasts and webinars of parents, siblings, self-advocates, researchers, and healthcare professionals allow people the chance to spread information from their experiences and learning that may answer questions or concerns you're having. Here are just some of many podcasts and webinars addressing the needs of and advocating for individuals with Down syndrome
Stephen and Lori Saux are the parents to two children, one of whom, their son Liam, has Down syndrome. They found that they had to find out a great deal of information on their own as the information presented to them was often outdated and negative. This podcast aims to share honest and useful conversations about supports, therapies, education and society as it pertains to Down syndrome advocacy and parenting.
Heather Avis, Micha Boyett, and Mercedes Lara are all mothers to children of different ages with Down syndrome and began this podcast named after the lucky few individuals who get to be parents to individuals with Down syndrome. They have conversations concerning many aspects of the Down syndrome community in order to shout the worth and shift the narrative of individuals with Down syndrome.
Hosted by Dr. Kishore Vellody, Medical Director of the Down Syndrome Center of Western Pennsylvania, former President of the National Down Syndrome Congress, and sibling to a brother with Down syndrome.
